Principal Mary Alice Zettel

Mary Alice Zettel has been an educator in Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Louisville for the past 30 years; 15 years as a teacher and 15 years as a principal. She has been the principal of Saint Mary Academy for the past 2 years.Mary Alice has a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s degree in Elementary Education, with an endorsement for certification as a Specialist in Computerized Instruction, Middle School Principal Certification, and an Education Specialist degree in Administration from Spalding University. Mary Alice is a product of Catholic schools, having attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School, Bethlehem High School, and Nazareth College all in Bardstown, KY. She now lives in Louisville with her husband, Tom. They have two children and three grandchildren.
In addition to her principal duties, Mary Alice was a presenter at national conferences in Cincinnati, Ohio; San Antonio, Texas; and Boston, Massachusetts. She has also presented at regional conferences in Columbus and Cleveland, Ohio. She is a graduate of the New Frontiers Technology Institute at the University of Dayton, Dayton, Ohio; a graduate of the Commonwealth Institute for Teachers; and a graduate of Leadership Education.
Mary Alice was recognized as a National Distinguished Principal by the U.S. Department of Education in 2003. She was also recognized as a Distinguished Principal for the Archdiocese of Louisville and the National Catholic Education Association.
